#DivestUMD is a campaign initiated by UMD's students, faculty, and organizations calling for the University of Maryland to remove its investments from companies that commit or profit off of human rights violations. We the campus community call on our leaders to commit to the principles of freedom, justice, and equality for all human beings. #DivestUMD has assembled a list of entities that are complicit in egregious abuses of human rights; now is the time to stand with oppressed groups across the globe in order to bring about a better world for all.

The University needs to make its investment processinclusive and transparentCurrently, the University's endowment is controlled by a separate but public foundation called the University System of Maryland Foundation (USMF), shielding it from any public accountability. We call on the University of Maryland to make its investment process transparent and give students and faculty a voice in decision making.

The University needs to divest from companies that profit off of human rights violationsThe University has its endowment invested in an array of different companies, and some of these companies are widely unethical, such as weapons manufactures, surveillance equipment suppliers, and private prisons. As students, we deserve an education that is not funded with dirty money and to attend a university that is not profiting off of human rights abuses.
